BeiMac February 2008 Meeting: niu-bi!
Niu-bi! Niu-bi (aka David Blumenstein), our man from BeiMac New York, made it to town this meeting and showed off what a recent Mac convert (and at that, a complete Mac guy) was up to. Being on computers for 25 years and counting, he was there before the Mac, Twitter and $6.95 domains were all the rage. The guy behind david.com, niu-bi took just about everything apart — and his PowerBook story made him a Mac guy just four short years ago. In the meantime, he has gone fully Mac — and was obviously pleased to talk to BeiMac, the most revolutionary Mac group in this part of the World.

Niu-bi showed off some really niu-bi (ie cool) tricks in Terminal, Spaces, and a utility that has Time Machine thinking twice what it might be doing to your OS 10.5 Mac. His Terminal tricks got him to just about every last place he wanted to go on the big virtual world out there, and like your President, is a believer in Adium + Skype. To kick the meeting off, the entire audience greeted “President” Allan Yong (note the quotes), who hails from far away Canada. Allan was a familiar sight to many in 2007, when he frequented no less than five meetings.

Niu-bi’s demos spanned the whole meeting. In the meeting, he showed off how the Web — and email — looked in Terminal (pine and lynx for those familiar with the gear). At the end, he took questions, and unveiled his mass arsenal of online web presences — a true weapon of mass communication. (Only the President temporarily beat him with an account on Xiaonei, and a Jabber presence.)

Niu-bi then joined six more BeiMac folks for dinner — hotpot galore.
With 22 people present, BeiMac is honored to have been able to host niu-bi. Thanks to niu-bi for a great presentation!
